Reading Information

We use Lead21 as our reading curricilum.  It introduces sounds, letters, high frequency sight words, vocabulary words, and comprehension skills.  Each week we will read a big book, and then small groups will read and work with differentiated readers at four different reading levels.  Each unit is themed, and they align nicely with our science and social studies units!

Lead 21 Themes:
1. All About Me
2. Around Me
3. Home and Family
4. Outdoor Explorers
5. Let's Celebrate
6. Life All Around
7. Actions and Words
8. Working Together

We also use Pathways as a curricilum to support teaching phonemic awareness and phonics skills.  This is done in both the whole group setting as small groups.  This is a systemetic program that helps kids identify and isolate sounds, then build them back together to create words.  Simply phonics + comprehension = reading.  This is what this program is built to do!
